Woodland Ridge
Hamden, CT
Garden structure/sculpture, Organic/toxin-free, Woodland/shade garden
This woodland shade garden is enhanced by mature trees creating a park-like ambiance. As a master gardener, I started pulling together unfinished garden beds and removing turf to expand gardens eight years ago when we bought the property. The low stone wall that now separates shade beds and a stone fire pit area, completed five years ago, creates restful garden rooms. Stone steps on the right lead to a series of garden beds filled with shade-loving, primarily native, plants that end in a "bird corner" of winterberry, viburnum, and cornus for our resident and migratory birds. The flowers and shrubs were selected with an emphasis on supporting pollinators and their life cycles. Our garden is a pesticide-free zone. Ornamental evergreens and a large specimen magnolia in the front of the property welcome visitors, but the magic is in the back!
This garden's estimated size is ½ acre.
