Windance
Chester, NJ
The garden at Windance began 25 years ago with a formal landscape of several garden rooms around the house. Over time, more informal plantings have been added across the south-facing slope of 5 acres. The landscape now offers surprising views, dry-laid stone walls, water features, unique garden structures, and several kinetic sculptures. Dozens of towering native trees are underplanted with a wide selection of ornamental trees, shrubs, and perennials offering four-season interest. The planting focus over the past decade has been to sustain pollinators from early spring through late fall. Deer-resistant planting is featured in beds outside the fencing surrounding most of the property. Thousands of bulbs are planted throughout. There is also a potager, an herb garden, and a native woodland with meandering paths.
