Vicki's Garden
Flourtown, PA
Alpine/rock garden, Garden structure/sculpture, Historic garden, Meadow, Woodland/shade garden
The centerpiece of this 1869 farmhouse and garden is an old barn foundation that has been beautifully repointed with found bits of pottery and glass from the yard. Key goals in the planting of the garden were cohesiveness, a focus on the view from the house, and a nod to the historical context of the setting. The garden is composed of many "rooms" that flow from one to another with sinewy lines, massed plantings, and crisp edges. "Art," mostly in the form of rusty metal pieces, is sprinkled throughout the garden to introduce a bit of whimsey and to provide a nod to the history of the site. Mature plantings from 30 years of gardening are being gradually replaced with grasses, meadow plants, and more deer resistant species.
This garden's estimated size is ⅔ acre.
