Saukville, WI
Historic garden, Organic/toxin-free, Scenic view, Substantial native plants, Water feature
As stewards of the Hemlock Family Farmstead, established in 1846, we are deeply committed to preserving its rich history while creating a peaceful oasis. Our eleven-year restoration journey is a testament to our dedication. We have cultivated colorful cottage-style gardens interspersed with charming spaces that evoke feelings of a bygone era. The picturesque views are enhanced by woodland meadows, wetlands, and tranquil ponds. We are passionate about organic and biodynamic practices. We have been beekeepers for seven years and proudly serve as a designated Monarch Waystation. Our methods both depend upon and help to protect a variety of vital pollinators. We maintain the historic elements of the property while enjoying the use of the original outbuildings as they stand today. We have breathed new life into the farmstead through thoughtful renovation of the farmhouse and preservation of the barn and summer kitchen. New projects include creating a vegetable garden, establishing a chicken coop, and enhancing the pond banks with new plants. Our greatest joy comes from sharing the gardens and the property with others! We are captivated by the variety of bees and butterflies that add life to the thousands of flowers in the gardens and meadows. We enjoy watching for new bird species that visit or nest in the gardens, woodlands, and ponds. The tranquility and pastoral beauty of the property is often captured through our photography and the paintings of plein air artists who visit this special place.
This garden's estimated size is 3 acres.
