Neverest
Wassaic, NY
Water feature, Organic/toxin-free, Fruit/vegetables, Substantial native plants, Garden structure/sculpture, Woodland/shade garden
Neverest has evolved over twenty years with the help of our neighbor and garden designer Marsha Kaufman. We found an old house with a patio, long stone wall, hemlock row, and mostly weeds. The site is shady and steeply sloped. We built stone walls and steps to terrace the land and added a path with native woodland plants. Each spring we added perennial beds, then two fountains, a deck, fence, bluestone courtyard and walk, entry garden, screen porch, large vegetable patch (raised beds over concrete slab), a berry house, and most recently a small greenhouse. Because of our involvement with Homegrown National Park, we have made a concerted effort to remove invasives from our property, including a very large patch of pachysandra. We will be replanting this area in the spring with mostly native plants. The plants selected throughout the property feature chartreuse and purple, though there are lots of hydrangeas and a rain garden across the road.
This garden's estimated size is 4 acres.
