Garden of Carol & Jim Large
Locust Valley, NY
Alpine/rock garden, Garden structure/sculpture, Meadow, Rare plants/plant collection, Water feature, Woodland/shade garden
This garden truly reflects the personality of its owners, having been redesigned and altered over their 30 years of ownership. The bones of the original garden were designed through Innocenti and Webel in the late 1930s around a much older frame farmhouse that was moved to the site and altered in 1936 by architect Bradley Delahanty. The property encompasses 10 acres of mature woodlands, streams, ponds, and fields placed in a framework of Long Island's signature rhododendron, mountain laurel, and azalea. There are several more formal garden areas planted with specimen woody plants, herb and perennial gardens, lawns, and terraces.
This garden's estimated size is 9¾ acres.
