Zumba Gardens
Oakland, CA
Garden structure/sculpture, Organic/toxin-free, Rare plants/plant collection, Water feature, Woodland/shade garden
Welcome to my garden. I grew up in the lush, high mountains of Ecuador. For me it was an enchanted, magical forest; it is the inspiration for this garden. Step into Zumba Gardens and leave the city behind. This is a garden to immerse yourself in and enjoy. As you explore the garden's labyrinth of paths, you will notice typical and exotic plants mixed in unorthodox combinations. Scattered about are traditional and nontraditional art. There are blooms of color interspersed throughout so that it appears natural, random, and playful. Many of the plants and colors were selected to provide seed and nectar, attracting wildlife that enhances the sense of magic and wonder. As a result, you'll notice an abundance of birds, moths, butterflies, and frogs in the garden. As the sun sets you may notice raccoons, possums, and a red fox. To protect and promote the wildlife, the garden is an organic environment with no pesticides or fertilizers. The mites, larvae, caterpillars, and other "pests" are a necessary component of the garden's well-balanced, natural ecosystem. I hope you will find a visit to Zumba Gardens a feast for the senses and enchantment for your soul.
This garden's estimated size is 1 acre.
