The Garden of Nan Quick
Jaffrey, NH
Garden structure/sculpture, Meadow, Organic/toxin-free, Substantial native plants, Water feature, Woodland/shade garden
In 2003, when I bought 5 acres of scrub woodland on a south-facing hill, my dream was to design a house that seamlessly integrates architecture with the hard and softscapes of surrounding gardens, and to weave together lines of sight so that outward views from every room are linked to specific garden features. I also knew I'd eventually create eye-catchers on the farther-flung portions of my land, so that from the raised vantage point of my house, I'd have attractive, intermediate-distance vignettes to distract me from the wonderful but ungovernable wilderness of the nature preserves which surround me. I'm also a garden historian, as well as a furniture designer whose work has been exhibited at the Chelsea Flower Show; my gardens are adorned with many of those pieces. After two decades of incessant housebuilding and land-shaping, what I initially imagined has finally taken form.
This garden's estimated size is 3 acres.
