Sisko Gardens and Sculpture Site
Mahwah, NJ
Alpine/rock garden, Fruit/vegetables, Garden structure/sculpture, Substantial native plants, Water feature, Woodland/shade garden
This garden is open twice this year: July 13 and September 14.
Paul has been working on this 3½-acre property for 37 years. The land was completely wooded within 50 feet of all sides of the original home, which years ago was a small farmhouse. Major tree removal has opened the property to sunlight and sunset views. The fishpond and pool area are surrounded by terraced gardens from relocated stone farm walls that were on the property along with larger stones unearthed from additional construction to the home. The terraces and upper gardens have been planted with mostly perennials and numerous annuals for spring through fall color. A new raised bed vegetable garden was added to an adjoining plot of land in 2020 which includes a ten-zone drip and spray watering system. All these gardens, as well as additions to the original home and his art studio/barn building have been developed personally by Paul. With more than 1,000 feet of installed deer fencing and electric driveway gates, the gardens are now much safer from the resident deer population that live within the surrounding forest. Of note are the numerous contemporary metal sculptures throughout the property which were all created by Paul during his artful career and later. The Sisko Gardens and Sculpture Site is a premier example of an owner designed, constructed, and maintained sanctuary that should be seen and enjoyed.
This garden's estimated size is 3½ acres.
