Juniper Ledge
Lakeville, CT
Meadow, Fruit/vegetables
Juniper Ledge garden faces south on a gently sloping hillside. It's a garden for meandering; one is often presented with choices of going this way or that way. There are benches along the way for resting and appreciating the views, sometimes of distant hills. A tennis pavilion is a larger, shaded rest spot. There's even a secluded meditation garden hidden away. Recent changes include eliminating areas of lawn, replacing it in front with mixed shrubs and flowering plants, and, in a quarter-acre south of the residence, with a tended, but natural, meadow. An experiment with NoMow grass in the lilac walk has been successful, so we are extending its use to several other areas. We've further provided privacy for swimmers and loungers with planted berms. Invasives on the way to the guesthouse are being replaced with mostly native shrubs, defining a pathway.
This garden's estimated size is 3 acres.
