Garden of Jane Garmey
West Cornwall, CT
Garden structure/sculpture, Organic/toxin-free, Scenic view, Water feature
Surrounding an 1827 house and situated next door to the historic eighteenth-century North Cornwall Meeting House, this garden belongs to garden writer Jane Garmey, whose most recent book is City Green: The Public Gardens of New York. Shielded from the road by a row of huge 250-year-old sugar maples and bordered by stone walls, the garden, designed by its owner, has evolved gradually over time. Its features include a formal boxwood parterre, a rill and fountain bordered by a high hornbeam hedge, two long flowerbeds planted for drama and height, an enclosed picking garden intersected by brick paths, a preponderance of container plantings, and a birdhouse village that floats above a glade of giant Petasites japonicus.
This garden's estimated size is 1 acre.
