Dry Falls Garden
Palm Springs, CA
Dry/xeriscape, Substantial native plants, Garden structure/sculpture, Scenic view, Water feature
The inspiration for the garden was the rugged canyons of the adjacent San Jacinto mountains. Our favorite plants are the iconic California fan palms that populate the adjacent canyons from which Palm Springs gets its name. Huge yucca and agaves reinforce this desert aesthetic.
Nestled within a neighborhood of classic mid-century homes, this garden unfolds as a poetic canvas, embodying the essence of a tranquil oasis. The original design featured amoeba-shaped islands of pristine white gravel, haphazardly within an expanse of verdant lawn. Now, in its rebirth, the garden gracefully draws inspiration from the untamed allure of the San Jacinto mountains, which stand as the focal point of the dwelling.
Nature's rugged elegance is echoed through the meticulous selection of the landscape elements: The colored walls, the agave, yuccas, the California fan palm, mesquite, ironwood, and the graceful palo verde trees are artfully choreographed to pay homage to the majestic mountainous backdrop.
This garden serves as a "desert retreat" carefully sculpted to offer respite from the frantic pace of Los Angeles life creating a landscape that not only soothes the soul but also tells a story of resilience and natural elegance.
