A Garden for Birds and Pollinators
Ossining, NY
Fruit/vegetables, Organic/toxin-free, Rare plants/plant collection, Substantial native plants, Water feature, Woodland/shade garden
A mostly native plant, shade/part-shade 1-acre property with an ephemeral wetland and Hudson River tributary, vegetable garden, native fruit and nut plants, and pollinator gardens and habitat. When purchased in 2004, the property was consumed by invasive plants which have now been replaced by an inventory of more than 100 native plant species. This property was included in a four-year mulch mowing study and a 2020 pollinator study, both conducted by Cornell University. Native plant collections include clethra, ferns, grasses, and huecheras. Less common plants include Apios americana, Euonymus atropurpureus, Ptelea trifolata, and Staphylea trifolata.
This garden's estimated size is ½ acre.
