Following the original garden design from Mott Schmidt’s award-winning 1926 Country House of the Year, these gardens have been updated to include native plants that are of no interest to the resident deer.
Several garden rooms have been added to incorporate outdoor living spaces that open up to fields and meadows leading to the woodland walk. This family-friendly organic property allows for an informal pool garden, a classic English parterre garden, a peony garden (especially pink in early June), a vegetable garden that complements the charming greenhouse, an extensive fruit orchard, horse paddocks embracing a pollinator field, and an allée of specimen linden trees all set within an historic Georgian design.
Photos and history of the property can be accessed at MottSchmidt.com under Pook’s Hill: Mr. and Mrs. Mott B. Schmidt.
This garden’s estimated size is 10 acres.
