Step Into Colorado’s Hidden Garden Treasures – One Day Only!

On Saturday, September 13, the Garden Conservancy’s Open Days program invites garden lovers to explore three remarkable private gardens in the Denver area. These spaces, rarely open to the public, showcase the creativity, dedication, and horticultural artistry of their owners. From historic restoration to desert innovation, each garden offers a distinct experience and a chance to connect with nature in a deeply personal way.

The featured gardens are:

The Bosler House Gardens – Denver, CO. Built in 1875 and lovingly restored, this Denver Landmark property blends historic charm with vibrant plantings. Behind privacy hedges lies a lush flower garden filled with traditional perennials, Colorado natives, and annuals. A potager garden and patio offer intimate outdoor dining spaces, while a small orchard and berry boxes add edible appeal. Pollinators abound in this thoughtfully designed city oasis.

Gatehouse Gardens – Denver, CO. This eclectic quarter-acre garden has evolved over six years into a dynamic mix of raised beds and varied habitats, including xeric and moderate moisture zones. A passion for plant collecting results in near-constant blooms throughout the growing season. Recent rock gardening experiments add texture and resilience, making this space a living laboratory of color and form.

Grummons Desert Garden – Lakewood, CO. A career-long dedication to low-water gardening shines in this ¾-acre desert landscape. Mature yucca, agave, grasses, and cacti—many developed through the Plant Select program—fill the space with striking structure and sustainability. Five greenhouses house rare cacti, while vegetable and fruit gardens add seasonal bounty. The lawn features ‘Dog Tuf,’ a super low-water turf grass introduced by the garden’s creator.
