About

This garden, designed by and belonging to garden writer Jane Garmey, surrounds an 1827 Colonial house and is shielded from the road by a row of 250-year-old sugar maples. Bordered by stone walls, it combines a fairly formal structure with a largely informal planting scheme. Main features include a boxwood gravel parterre, a rill and fountain fronted by a high hornbeam hedge, two long flower beds planted for drama and height, an enclosed picking garden intersected with brick paths, a terrace filled with potted plants, a growing collection of antique ornaments, and a birdhouse village that floats above a glade of giant Petasites japonicus.

This garden’s estimated size is 1 acre.
