About
Our garden has been lovingly constructed over the past 25+ years from a steep hillside lot that was destroyed in the 1991 fire. The whole space had to be hardscaped entirely by hand and encompasses a winding plan with connecting paths, retaining walls, stairways, and seating areas.
Most of the areas in full sun are dedicated to an interesting variety of succulents including some very sizable specimens. Areas with more moist soil and shade from oaks and bottlebrush trees include a broad mix of plants including subtropical species like bromeliads, bamboo, palms and cycads. There is a sense of whimsy throughout the garden with an eclectic mix of sculptural and mural artwork.
Fans of Godzilla and the Hulk will not be disappointed and there is even an Octopus’s Garden in the Shade. Overall, the garden design has evolved organically over the years and increasingly has become a haven for birds and other wildlife.
This garden’s estimated size is 10,000 sq. ft.
This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: The driveway to our house is very steep and our garden is not wheelchair friendly. There are many stairs, some with uneven stone steps, but railings are in place for most.
