About
My garden is a constant source of joy, peace, renewal, and labor for me. It is an integral part of my home, an old bungalow remodeled in stages over the years with covered outdoor spaces and windows and doors that make the garden part of life regardless of weather and whether I am inside or out.
I have lived in my home since 1989 and in 2013 acquired the property next door with the primary purpose of preserving a very large old live oak tree at the rear of the property. I added a small, contemporary guest house with an attached greenhouse, a potting shed and a simple pool in the expanded space.
In 2024, I lost a very large water oak tree behind the main house during Hurricane Beryl, converting that space from full shade to full sun, necessitating the movement of some plants to shadier locations and a full redesign of that part of the garden, done with the assistance of landscape architect Mark McKinnon. In all things, I believe variety truly is the spice of life and that is reflected in the many types of plants incorporated into the garden.
One of my greatest joys is observing the way the garden changes by season and over time. The garden is home to a menagerie of living and sculpted birds and other animals.
This garden's estimated size is 8,000 sq ft.
This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: The garden is entered by a gravel driveway. It is not wheelchair friendly but most people should not have trouble navigating. There are some gravel areas and flagstone paths.
