Gayle and Andrew Camden Garden

Grosse Pointe, MI

The Garden Conservancy Preservation Partner Garden

About

This Open Day is presented in partnership with Oudolf Garden Detroit.

We bought this property in 1972. It is a double lot, 200 feet deep. The garden has developed over the years and can now be called a landscape garden, as it is beautiful in the winter as well as the summer.

Our property is also a testimony to my wife, Gayle’s love for rocks and boulders. You will find them everywhere as a backdrop to garden materials and landscape starting in the space between the sidewalk and street and all along the driveway.

We plant annuals in the summer in the raised space adjacent to our patio as well as four stand-alone pots which include coleus, a tall grass, ivy, two colors of sweet potato vine, and black and blue salvia to attract hummingbirds. Throughout the garden we have many varieties of hosta, which add interest and drama because of their size.

When fall comes and we lose the color in the garden, we begin planting amaryllis in pots inside the house. They continue in abundance until May, when our garden comes fully alive again.

This garden's estimated size is 3/4 acre.
