Casa Boulerado
Palm Springs, CA
About
The property which has a historic 1930 Spanish style main house, and a more recent guest house is almost an acre is surrounded by hedges and is dominated by 87 boulders some weighing up to 7 tons. "Our whole idea was to make it look like they've rolled down the mountain and just kind of settled on the property and then the house was built around them," says Landscape designer Troy Williams who with his partner, Gino Dreese, designed the landscape almost five years ago for a previous owner of the house. Within the property are several distinct gardens. The cactus garden with its morning views of the mountains at the back of the guest house is the perfect place to greet a new day with a cup of coffee. An arbor leads to a path around the front of the house to the side garden that has a fire pit and pool with a Spanish Colonial aesthetic. The boulders around the fire pit retain the heat of the day making it a great place to watch the sun go down over the mountains. A hedge and lemon tree and built in seating create an intimate space around the built in hot tub. A courtyard between the main house and the guest house which is shaded by Mesquite trees is ideal for entertaining and dining. The current owners have reduced the amount of lawn on the property by 60% by creating a new desert garden between artificial turf at the front of the house and natural grass adjacent to the pool and fire pit.
This garden’s estimated size is 1 acre.
