Blooms and Birds
Albany, CA
About
Every gardener's wish came true when, in 2012, we acquired the next door property and expanded the existing smallish garden. With this new 5,000 square feet blank canvas and a desire to attract birds, Blooms and Birds evolved. Even now, after 13 years, it is still a place for amateur experimentation. Through trial and error the various garden beds have evolved, The only requirement for a potential plant is that it blooms. Peonies, bearded iris and lilacs lead the show each spring, followed by a crazy quilt of other perennials, as well as showy annuals. Outside the fence along the sidewalk, deer resistant plants create a year round show of blooms for passersby. A variety of both resident and migrant birds enjoy the garden year round. Sitting on a bench under a mature weeping white barked birch (queen of the garden!), one can watch many different birds enjoy the feeder or drink and bathe in the small creek.
This garden’s estimated size is 6,000 sq feet.
