Culture Bridge, Part Two: A Significant Public Landscape in Oakland,
with Joy Bailey-Bryant, Lori Fogarty, and James Brayton Hall

Public and community gardens are indispensable resources that contribute to the joy, safety, beauty, and camaraderie of their neighborhoods. They are assets for horticultural and environmental education and part of a civic bond that knits together a strong social fabric. Cultural organizations are beginning to recognize public landscapes as tools for community outreach and bridge-building. Community garden organizations have grown tremendously over the past decade and are essential to achieve food sovereignty and an empowered sense of environmental justice and dignity.

Join us for this miniseries for a discussion between the Garden Conservancy and leading experts who are leveraging the power of gardens to transform the world. In this second segment, the Garden Conservancy's James Brayton Hall will be joined by Joy Bailey-Bryant, Lord Cultural Resources, and Lori Fogarty, the Oakland Museum of California.

The Garden Conservancy is providing financial support for the renovation of Oakland Museum of California's gardens and partnering with the museum on educational programming.

ABOUT LORI FOGARTY AND JOY BAILEY-BRYANT
James Brayton Hall, president and CEO of the Garden Conservancy, will be joined by Lori Fogarty, executive director of the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) and Joy Bailey-Bryant, president (US) of Lord Cultural Resources to reflect on the importance of public green spaces as community assets and on the OMCA garden restoration project led by Hood Design Studio. They will discuss the significance of the new design for a garden that serves as a cultural bridge between the museum and the surrounding community of Oakland, one of the most diverse cities in the United States.
